The Novawinch STINGER 12000 is a 12V 4x4 winch with 12,000lb (5,443kg) of rated single-line pull on the first rope layer. Part of the STINGER series, it is designed for suitably equipped 4x4s, pickups, trailers and light recovery vehicles.

This model comes with 26m of 9.2mm UHMWPE synthetic rope, an aluminium hawse fairlead and DUO wired/wireless control. Synthetic rope is lighter and easier to handle than an equivalent steel wire rope, making it well suited to vehicle recovery and off-road use.

Why Choose Synthetic Rope?

Synthetic rope is substantially lighter than steel wire rope, making it easier to carry, pull out and handle during a recovery. It does not develop the sharp broken strands associated with damaged steel cable and stores less energy under load.

Always inspect the rope and hawse fairlead before use. Keep the rope away from sharp edges, excessive heat and abrasive surfaces, use a suitable rope dampener and ensure everyone remains clear of the loaded line.

12V Performance and Electrical Requirements

On the first rope layer, the STINGER 12000 has a line speed of 1.1m/min at its full 12,000lb load, drawing 420A. At no load, it has a line speed of 10m/min and draws 80A.

These are operating figures, not cable or circuit-breaker sizing instructions. The installation requires a suitable 12V battery system, correctly sized cables, secure electrical connections and appropriate circuit protection. Follow the installation and duty-cycle instructions supplied with the winch.

IP68 Protection and Upgraded Construction

The STINGER series uses an IP68-rated enclosure, cut-steel planetary gears and automatic mechanical braking. Premium electronics and circuit-breaker protection help protect the electrical system during operation.

The control pack can be repositioned to suit different installations, while machined tie bars and stainless steel hardware provide a robust mounting structure. Regular inspection and maintenance remain essential, particularly after wet, muddy or sandy use.

DUO Wireless and Wired Control

The included DUO controller operates wirelessly at a range of up to approximately 50ft (15m). When a wired connection is preferred, connect the supplied 3.9m cable to the same DUO controller and plug it into the winch.

This provides wireless and wired operation from a single controller, allowing the operator to choose the most suitable control method for the recovery.

Choosing the Right 4x4 Winch

The 12,000lb rating describes pulling force on the first rope layer. It is not a lifting capacity or maximum vehicle weight. Available pull decreases as rope builds up on the drum, while the force required depends on the gradient, surface conditions and whether the vehicle’s wheels can turn freely.
