KX Series Worm Gear Winches

A worm gear winch drives the drum through a worm (a screw) and a worm wheel. The gear set doesn't back-drive under load, so it gives natural braking and strong load-holding without relying only on a separate brake. That makes worm gear winches well suited to recovery trucks, flat-bed trailers and plant, where the load must stay held on an incline.

The Novawinch KX Series adds a mechanical automatic lock brake, a copper alloy worm wheel, tapered bearings and a modular design that makes servicing easier. Every winch comes with a 2-year warranty and free next-day UK mainland delivery, or you can click and collect from our Rothwell, Leeds site.

KX Models

Wire rope is not included. The recommended rope for all KX models is 10.3mm x 21m, with a minimum breaking strength of 102kN.

Worm Gear or Planetary Winch?

Planetary gear winches, like our PRO PLUS and T Series, are faster and more compact. Worm gear winches are slower but hold the load more securely, which suits loading and positioning work where control matters more than speed.

Hydraulic Requirements

The KXH hydraulic models need an oil flow of 60 litres per minute at 14 MPa (140 bar), from a pump, PTO or power pack. See our hydraulic winches guide for what to check.
