Military Rated Hydraulic Winches
Military Rated Hydraulic WinchesWhen you are axle-deep in a muddy UK green lane or tackling a steep, rocky ascent, failure is not an option. Novawinch 4x4 electric winches are engineered to get you home safely. Built with military-grade components and designed specifically for the rigors of off-roading, our 12V Electric Winches deliver massive, reliable pulling power exactly when you need it most.
Whether you drive a classic Land Rover Defender, a modified Jeep Wrangler, or a modern dual-cab pickup truck, we have a recovery solution engineered for your exact front bumper or bullbar setup.
We know that UK off-roading means dealing with deep water, thick mud, and driving rain. That is why our 4x4 winches are built to survive the harshest environments on earth:
Our 4x4 winch lineup typically ranges from 9,500lb up to 12,000lb capacities—the proven sweet spot for consumer off-road vehicles. (If you are outfitting a 3.5-tonne tow truck or heavy flatbed, you will want to browse our larger Commercial Recovery Winches).
The golden rule for off-road self-recovery is to multiply your vehicle’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) by 1.5. For example, if your fully loaded 4x4 weighs 6,000lbs, you need a winch with a minimum capacity of 9,000lbs to safely overcome the resistance of deep mud or steep inclines.
Yes, we strongly recommend synthetic rope for recreational 4x4 use. It is up to 80% lighter, floats on water, and won't develop sharp metal burrs. Most crucially, if a synthetic rope snaps, it drops safely to the ground rather than violently whipping back like a steel cable. Steel cable is generally reserved for heavy-duty Electric Winches used in continuous commercial towing.
Electric winches draw a significant amount of amperage under heavy load. However, for standard self-recovery, your primary battery will be fine as long as you keep your engine running at a high idle during the pull so the alternator can recharge the system. For frequent, heavy winching, upgrading to a dual-battery setup is a smart investment.
Yes. Novawinch 4x4 models feature robust IP67 and IP68 sealing. This means they are completely dust-tight and can withstand continuous immersion in water, perfect for deep UK wading and heavy mud.
