How to Choose a Winch for Your 4x4

Winch capacity is normally chosen with a margin above the vehicle's fully loaded weight, but weight alone doesn't decide the pulling force required. Deep mud, gradients, damaged tyres, obstacles and the number of rope layers on the drum can all increase the load.
