Structurally, no. A high-quality "tree saver" sold in 4x4 shops is exactly the same as an industrial duplex lifting sling. They are both made of reinforced polyester webbing designed for high-tension loads. The wider the sling, the better it acts as a tree saver, as it spreads the force of the pull over a larger area of the tree trunk.

No. Lifting slings are made from high-tenacity polyester, which is designed to have very low stretch (typically less than 3% under load). A snatch strap (kinetic recovery strap) is made from nylon and is designed to stretch up to 20% to absorb the shock of a running vehicle recovery. Never use a static lifting sling for a kinetic, running vehicle recovery, as the sudden shock load can snap the strap or tear the recovery points off your vehicle.

Before every use, you should inspect your sling for safety. You must retire and replace the sling immediately if you find any deep cuts in the webbing, severe abrasion where the internal yarns are exposed, melted or charred sections from friction heat, or if the load-bearing stitching around the reinforced eyes is torn.
