Heavy Duty Towing Shackles for Winching and Recovery

Shackles connect winch ropes, recovery straps, snatch blocks and recovery points, so they're one of the most important links in any towing or recovery setup. Our range covers screw pin bow shackles from 3.25 to 17 ton and D-shackles from 1.5 to 2 ton, for 4x4 recovery, winching and commercial vehicle recovery.

All orders come with free next-day UK mainland delivery, or you can click and collect from our Rothwell, Leeds site.

Bow Shackles or D-Shackles?

  • Bow shackles: a wider, rounded body that takes recovery strap eyes, rope eyes and more than one connection, and copes better with angled pulls. The usual choice for vehicle recovery.
  • D-shackles: a narrower body for straight-line pulls in line with the shackle. Avoid side loading unless the manufacturer allows it.

Choosing a Winch Shackle

  • Rated load: check the rated load (WLL) marked on the shackle against the forces in your setup. A snatch block can roughly double the load on its anchor point.
  • Size and fit: the shackle must suit the recovery point, strap eye or rope eye without forcing or pinching.
  • Screw pin shackles: quick to fit and remove, which suits recovery work. Make sure the pin is fully engaged before every pull.
  • Complete system: the shackle, rope, strap and recovery points must all be rated for the job.

Inspection and Safe Use

Inspect shackles before every use. Remove any with deformation, cracks, a bent or damaged pin, worn threads or heavy corrosion. Never exceed the marked rating, replace a pin with a bolt, or use makeshift attachment points.
