The Novawinch NVT8000 is an 8,000lb (3,629kg) 12V recovery winch designed for compatible 4x4s, off-road vehicles, boat trailers and general utility winching. Its middle-frame construction combines substantial first-layer pulling power with a more compact installation than larger recovery winches.

A 4.2kW series-wound motor, three-stage planetary gearbox and 196:1 reduction ratio provide controlled pulling performance. The winch is supplied with 29m of 8.1mm synthetic rope, an aluminium hawse fairlead and a waterproof wired remote.

Built for 4x4 Recovery and Utility Winching

The NVT8000 is suitable for off-road self-recovery, controlled trailer loading and other vehicle-mounted winching applications. Its pull-and-turn clutch allows the rope to be manually paid out before a recovery, while the automatic brake helps hold the load when winching stops.

The IP67-rated construction helps protect the winch against dust and temporary water exposure. Regular inspection and maintenance are still required, particularly after use around mud, salt water or boat-launching environments.

Synthetic Rope for Easier Handling

The supplied 29m synthetic rope is lighter and easier to handle than an equivalent steel wire rope. It also stores less kinetic energy if it fails under tension. However, synthetic rope can be damaged by sharp edges, excessive heat, contamination and abrasion, so it should be inspected before every use.

The aluminium hawse fairlead provides a smooth surface for the synthetic rope. Replace the fairlead if it becomes deeply scratched or damaged, as rough edges can weaken the rope.

12V Performance and Electrical Requirements

On the first rope layer, the NVT8000 has a no-load line speed of 6.2m/min. At its maximum rated pull of 8,000lb, line speed is approximately 1.7m/min and motor current rises to around 360A.

This high current demand requires correctly sized battery cables, secure electrical connections and suitable circuit protection. The vehicle battery and charging system must also be capable of supporting the winch. Follow the supplied installation instructions and allow the motor to cool between prolonged or demanding pulls.

Understanding the 8,000lb Rating

The 8,000lb figure is the maximum single-line pulling force available on the first rope layer. It is not the maximum vehicle weight the winch can safely recover. Pulling force reduces as additional rope layers accumulate on the drum.

Required pulling force also depends on the gradient, surface resistance, vehicle condition and whether the wheels can rotate freely. Confirm that the winch rating, mounting structure and recovery equipment are appropriate for the vehicle and intended use.

Safe Winching

The NVT8000 is intended for pulling and vehicle recovery. It must not be used for lifting people, suspending loads or securing vehicles during transport. Always use appropriately rated recovery points and accessories, wear suitable protective equipment and keep bystanders clear of the winch line.

Place a winch-line damper over the rope during recovery and avoid side pulls that cause the rope to gather against one end of the drum. Maintain sufficient rope on the drum and never disengage the clutch while the rope is under load.
