Don’t choose on headline line pull alone. Consider the load, conditions, electrical system, mounting and how often you’ll winch.
- 12V or 24V: 12V suits many 4x4s, ATVs, UTVs and trailers. 24V suits commercial vehicles, recovery trucks, plant and machinery with 24V electrics.
- Pulling capacity: allow for weight, rolling resistance, gradient and surface. Rated pull is highest on the first drum layer and falls as the drum fills.
- Rope type: steel for abrasion resistance in commercial environments; synthetic for lighter handling on many recovery and trailer jobs.
- Mounting and electrics: mounting structure, battery, cabling and connections must suit the loads and current draw.
